Event provides St. Louis and Illinois area girls with the prom of a lifetime.
ST. LOUIS (March 1, 2018) - Is your closet full of dresses you no longer wear? Now, there is a way to clean your closet, help the environment and give back to high school girls by recycling your special occasion dresses.
Fairy Glam Project, a partnership between Nspire 2 Dream and clothing recycler USAgain, is now collecting dresses to donate to young girls in need of a prom dress for that special occasion.
Fairy Glam Project provides St. Louis and Illinois high school juniors and seniors facing financial hardships with an opportunity to select a new or gently used prom dress at no cost.
Dresses may be dropped off at green and white USAgain bins located throughout the area. The process is simple for donors - bag your surplus dresses, label the bag PROM with a permanent marker and drop off the dresses in the local USAgain bins. For a complete list of drop-off locations, visit www.usagain.com.
All collected dresses will be made available at a dress boutique at Harris-Stowe State University, Emerson Performing Center, 3026 Laclede Ave. St. Louis, MO, on Saturday, March 10 from 10 am to 2 pm. Girls will experience a day of shopping, pampering, and motivation.
Potential shoppers must register at www.fairyglamproject.org and bring a printed ticket as proof of registration.
What started off as just an opportunity to help a few girls, has turned into one of the most looked-forwarded to events of the prom season. Each year the event has increased partnerships and opportunities throughout the city. “We are so excited to be partnering with USAgain again this year. We are also happy to have Jaylia Washington, Miss Harris-Stowe State University as our sponsor. These partnerships have really helped us make more girls dreams come true,” says Nikole Shurn-Perkins, founder and executive director of Nspire 2 Dream.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Americans throw out 85 percent of their clothing, amounting to more than 11 million tons of textiles that take up valuable landfill space.
“Students have the opportunity to help the environment while also performing a good deed for those in need,” said USAgain CEO Mattias Wallander. “Not everyone has the luxury of purchasing a brand new prom dress, so we view this program as a “win-win” for all involved.
