St. Louis, MO – (March 11, 2013) – Evansville, Indiana residents will now have more options to recycle their unwanted clothing and shoes, textile recycler USAgain announced today.
USAgain, a for-profit company committed to diverting clothing and shoes from landfills, will be placing thirty-five of its green-and-white collection boxes in partnership with local businesses who would like to offer a free recycling service to their community and make a positive impact on the environment. The bins will be placed in the week on March 11.
"Our goal is to make it easier and more convenient for Evansville residents to recycle their clothing instead of throwing it in the trash,” said USAgain CEO, Mattias Wallander. “Our boxes in the Evansville area will help residents dispose of their clothing in an eco-friendly manner, keep textiles out of landfills, and give old clothes a second life.”
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Americans throw out 85 percent of their clothing in the trash, which translates to about 11 million tons of textile waste buried in landfills each year.
Just as public awareness has evolved and grown when it comes to recycling other items like bottles and cans, USAgain believes we all need to start thinking differently when deciding how to get rid of our old clothes and shoes. USAgain’s focus is to conserve landfill space whether it means putting clothes and shoes into a USAgain container or donating them to a charity organization. As a part of it’s textile recycling awareness campaign, USAgain offers educational, no-work, no-cost recycling fundraisers for schools and non-profits.
USAgain sells most of the clothing it collects for re-use to thrift stores and to wholesalers, who then resell it to markets in need of affordable clothing in the United States and abroad. The rest of the clothing and other textiles are broken down and recycled into things like rags and insulation for homes and automobiles.
Awarded an A+ rating by the Better Business Bureau, USAgain has more than 10,000 collection bins in 18 states and prides itself on maintaining its bins to the highest standards. Unlike some other textile recyclers, USAgain employs a full-time staff - not subcontractors - and uses a computerized tracking system to ensure regular service and prevent overflow. Each bin also promotes a 24/7 customer phone line answered by live operators and website for queries or to report service needs.
