In pursuit of a green Earth, Greenbriar School (of Chicago Heights District 170) is hosting a used clothing collection fundraiser. The school is collecting clothes and shoes to raise funds for our school, according to Principal Joseph Taylor.
For every pound of clothes collected in the drop-box located on the northeast side of the school building, Greenbriar earns money through a fundraising program called USAgain. USAgain is a clothing collection company that resells clothing in the USA and abroad.
According to the U.S. EPA, less than 15 percent of all clothing is diverted from the waste stream for reuse. Each year more than eight million tons of clothing is land filled in the U.S.
This is a waste of resources, energy and a source of pollution to our environment, says Taylor.
Greenbriar's drive hopes to be a win-win project, protecting the environment while generating funding for an important cause.
