USAgain hosts "Homecoming Goes Green" dress giveaway on August 19 in West Chicago

Event Raises Awareness of Textile Recycling Among Chicago Students

CHICAGO—(August 1, 2012) – USAgain, the company that diverts millions of pound of clothing and textiles from landfills each year, announces the first-ever Homecoming Goes Green dress giveaway event in West Chicago on August 19, 2012. At Homecoming Goes Green, Chicagoland high school students are invited to select one free dress to wear to their school’s homecoming dance or prom. Students are encouraged to bring one unwanted T-shirt to the event, to show their commitment to reducing textile waste in landfills.

“According to the EPA, Americans put 11 million tons of textile waste into landfills each year,” said Mattias Wallander, CEO of USAgain. "Raising awareness of the impact of textile waste is the first step to encouraging textile-recycling, as individuals and as a country, one garment at a time. We’re thrilled to offer Chicago teens a chance to learn about this important issue through our dress giveaway event.”

To register for Homecoming Goes Green, students should “Like” the USAgain Facebook page and fill out a short registration form. The event is free and open to the public but students will be asked to show valid student I.D. to obtain a dress. Bringing a T-shirt, or other piece of wearable unwanted clothing is encouraged, but not required.

The dresses are new or lightly-used; many still have tags. USAgain is excited to give these dresses a new life to high school students from the Chicagoland area.
