Daly City School Wins Second Place in Nationwide Recycling Contest

Mount Vernon Christian Academy in Daly City, CA, has won second place in USAgain's nationwide Earth Month Contest for the "most pounds collected per student" category. Competing against over 500 other schools across the country collecting textiles in an effort to reduce landfill waste, Mount Vernon Academy collected 745 pounds of clothing, shoes and other textiles during the month of April 2012! 

"USAgain's drop box has been a great asset to the community," said Rev. Alfredo Lewis, pastor and administrator at Mt. Vernon Academy. "In fact, our collection bin was full within the second week of hosting it on our school's property."

Since partnering with USAgain, Mount Vernon Academy has collected 1,918 pounds of textiles, saving 2,685,200 gallons of water, preventing the emission of 13,426 pounds of CO2, and freeing 11 cubic yards of landfill space.
