This April, join USAgain in celebrating Earth Month, raising environmental awareness beyond Earth Day while diverting textile waste from landfills.
How does it work? Your school hosts a USAgain collection bin on its property, offering students, faculty and community members an eco-friendly and convenient way to recycle old clothes and shoes while your school earns cash per pound of textiles collected. Throughout the month of April 2012, schools can track their collection results in real-time at www.usagain.com. The top three schools that collect the most pounds of textiles per student will win a cash prize of $500, $300 or $250 respectively, in addition to cash earned through the regular fundraising program. All other participating schools will earn money based on poundage collected.
How much will my school earn for participating in USAgain's program? Participating schools earn two cents per pound of textiles collected.
Will my school have to sell anything in order to raise funds in this program? No. USAgain textile recycling fundraiser requires no work from your school, students or parents.
Why is textile recycling so important? The U.S. EPA estimates that close to 11 million tons of textiles end up in the trash every year. If collected, these trashed textiles are in a condition to be reused as second hand clothing or repurposed for use as industrial wiping rags, insulation or furniture stuffing, among other uses.
How will our community know to drop off their unwanted clothing and shoes at our school's USAgain collection bin? USAgain makes it simple for you; we provide downloadable marketing materials including posters, handouts and flyers, in order to help you spread the world and raise community awareness to your school's USAgain fundraiser.
When does the competition start? USAgain's Earth Month competition beings April 1st and ends April 30th. Deadline for registration is March 25.
What if my school already hosts a USAgain collection bin? Great! Then your school is automatically entered into the competition
How is USAgain helping to reduce unnecessary textile waste? In 2011, USAgain helped divert nearly 60 million pounds of clothing, shoes and other textiles from ending up in a landfill. Each day, USAgain collects unwanted clothing and shoes, reducing waste and preventing harmful greenhouse gases from entering our atmosphere.
