The Algonquin Township in Illinois is one of USAgain's strongest partners, boasting the highest collection numbers from their five collection bins-nearly half a million pounds per year. Mr. Robert J. Miller, the Algonquin Township Highway Commissioner, is an avid recycler who oversees the Township's cutting-edge recycling center.
Mr. Miller has changed the landscape of recycling in his community in the last ten years. He started with a small idea to recycle paper and cardboard and the ensuing success bred more ambition. Today, the town's recycling portfolio includes Christmas trees, paints, books, motor oil, carpets, electronics, clothes and shoes.
"We first started recycling paper; the tremendous success resulted in an offshoot of a recycling center," says Mr. Miller. "I am glad we did it and am pleased by its success. It takes a little effort and it is worth it. We should continue educating people about recycling and its benefits."
Mr. Miller strongly believes that even though recycling is taught in schools, public recycling programs must be strengthened to help ensure people are put on the path to recycle their textiles and more.
"It's a mobile society, people want instant services. People clean up and want to get rid of trash as soon as possible" says Mr. Miller. That's where all-day all-night, highly accessible, recycling collection bins like USAgain's come in handy."
Even with the knowledge we have today, 15% of textiles end up in land-fills and recycling companies such as USAgain play a vital role in minimizing waste.
"USAgain is providing communities a very accessible avenue to make recycling convenient and easy," says Mr. Miller.
