Students and staff at Washington Elementary School are doing their part to reduce landfill waste, while raising money for their school, through a clothing collection fundraiser.

Washington was recently designated as a host site for USAgain, an environmentally-friendly clothing and textile collection company that resells used clothes and textiles. The goal of USAgain is to reduce the amount of clothing and textiles that ends up in landfills every year. It is estimated that eight million tons of clothing, towels, sheets and tablecloths end up in landfills across the country each year.

A USAgain collection box has been set up outside Washington, and community members are encouraged to drop off used clothing that would have otherwise been thrown out.

In exchange for acting as a host site, Washington Elementary has the opportunity to earn money for its PTO and the PTO’s school incentive programs. Donations can be dropped off outside Washington Elementary School, 110 S. Orchard Ave.
