USAgain Announces Annual America Recycles Day Contest Winners

Schools Recycle More Than 191,179 Pounds of Textiles, Earn Cash Prizes

Chicago - (December 18, 2014)  –
USAgain, the company that helps divert millions of pounds of clothing and textiles from landfills each year, has announced the winners of its annual America Recycles Day Contest. The contest benefits local schools and is a fun and educational way to raise textile recycling awareness and earn cash for schools.

During the month of November, schools across the country competed to collect textiles in USAgain drop boxes located at their schools. Schools actively spread awareness about current low textile recycling rates and the need to recycle more; 12 million tons of clothing and other textiles are dumped in landfills each year in the United States.

The top five schools collecting the most clothes, shoes and other textiles will be awarded cash prizes of $1,000, $750, $500, $300 and $250 respectively. All participating schools earned cash for each pound of textiles collected to honor their commitment to the environment.

The 2014 America Recycles Day Contest Winners:

First place: Amador Valley High School with 6,740 pounds (Pleasanton, CA)
Second place: Pui Tak Christian School with 4,482 pounds (Chicago, IL)
Third place: Aurora Quest with 3,759 pounds (Aurora, CO)
Fourth place: Brentwood Academy with 3,464 pounds (East Palo Alto, CA)
Fifth place: St. Clare School with 2,068 pounds (O’Fallon, IL)
